My name is Aurora McLachlan - Rory, Rora, whatever pleases you. I was born on the beautiful Vancouver Island on the West Coast of Canada and it is now my sanctuary for all things outdoors! I was raised my an incredibly strong woman (the 5'2 kind that loads a black bear in the back of the truck by herself), and we grew up snowshoeing mountain sides, going on ridiculous canoe escapades, and in 2015, we started hunting. Three years after, I reluctantly took 3-month camp position as a dock grunt at a remote fishing lodge, and I have been in love with fishing ever since. I have worked in hatcheries, fish farms, as well as on Lodge docks and trawlers and just can't get enough of it! I decided to start writing on Medium in 2021 to provide a place for other Reel Girls (see what I did there?) to look for resources, ask questions, learn, and teach me as well!
